Nokia 2 (2018), Nokia 3 (2018) and Nokia 5 (2018).... Is Nokia heading in the Right Direction??

Nokia 2 (2018), Nokia 3 (2018) and Nokia 5 (2018) Announced...

Yesterday in Moscow, HMD Global held an event in which 3 new Nokia Smartphones were announced which are not actually new but are the upgraded version of older Nokia Smartphones. In this event, Nokia announced the Nokia 2 (2018), Nokia 3 (2018) and the Nokia 5 (2018) Smartphones. The three handsets are the successors of the Nokia 2, Nokia 3 and the Nokia 5 launched last year. Lets just start-up with the Specs of the three new devices.

  • Specification Highlights -
Nokia 2 (2018) - 5.5 inch HD display, Android Oreo Go edition, Snapdragon 425 SoC, 1 GB RAM/8 GB storage, 4000 mAh battery, 8 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera.

Nokia 3 (2018) - 5.2 inch HD+ display, Android 8.0, MediaTek MT6750 SoC, 2 GB/3 GB RAM & 16 GB/32 GB storage options, 13 MP rear camera and 8 MP front camera, 2990 mAh battery.

Nokia 5 (2018) - 5.5 inch FHD+ display, Android Oreo, MediaTek MT6755S SoC, 2 GB RAM/3 GB RAM & 16 GB/32 GB storage options, 3000 mAh battery, 16 MP rear camera and a 8 MP front camera.

Nokia 2 (2018)

The Nokia 2 (2018) or the Nokia 2.1 sports a 5.5 inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It comes with Android Oreo (Go Edition) out-of-the-box and is powered by the Snapdragon 425 SoC coupled with Adreno 308 GPU.

It comes with a 8 MP shooter on the rear side with auto-focus and a LED flash and a 5 MP front camera  with fixed focus. The Smartphone comes with 1 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128 GB. Under the hood, there's a 4000 mAh battery which is claimed to last for 2 days. It has been given a Global Price of $ 115 (Rs 7,800) which is really high for such a Smartphone. Atleast Nokia should have used 2 GB of RAM instead of this low RAM and Storage.

Nokia 3 (2018) -

The Nokia 3 (2018) or the Nokia 3.1 sports a 5.2 inch HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels) 18:9 display and corning Gorilla Glass Protection. The handset comes with Android Oreo out-of-the-box (Android One) and is powered by MediaTek MT6750 SoC coupled with ARM Mali T860 MP2 GPU.

The Nokia 3.1 features a 13 MP rear camera with autofocus and an aperture of f/2.0. and the front camera is a 8 MP shooter with fixed focus, an aperture of f/2.0 and 84.6 degree field-of-view. Nokia 3.1 comes with 2 GB/3 GB RAM options and 16 GB/32 GB storage options. Under the hood, it has a 2990 mAh battery which would last for less than a day. Its Global Price starts at EUR 139 which is roughly equal to Rs 10,900. If it comes to India at this price, then I don't think its going to survive as there is a lot of competition in this price range and the competitors are have far better specs than the Nokia 3.1.

Nokia 5 (2018) -

The Nokia 5 (2018) or the Nokia 5.1 features a 5.5 inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2160 pixels) 18:9 display and comes with corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It comes with Android Oreo out-of-the-box and is powered by the MediaTek MT6755S SoC coupled with ARM Mali T860 MP2 GPU.

Nokia 5.1 features a 16 MP rear camera with PDAF and a LED Flash and for selfies, it has a 8 MP fixed focus lens. It has the same RAM and Storage options as the Nokia 3.1 and has a 3000 mAh battery and contains all the basic sensors including Gyroscope. The Global Price of this Nokia 5.1 starts at EUR 189  which is approximately equal to Rs 14,800.

The specs of the phones have been Improved but the price is not at all justified. If these phones arrive India at this price then Please don't buy these Smartphones because you get a lot of options in the market which are far better than these Smartphones. So, go for other options instead of buying these Nokia Smartphones. Nokia X6 is a really good Smartphone but I don't know when Nokia will bring the X6 to India.
So, as of now, Nokia is not at all heading in the right direction in the budget segment and Nokia needs to launch the Nokia X6 in India as soon as possible.
