Xiaomi Redmi Y2.... Redmi Note 5 Killer??

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Y2 in India with a 16 MP selfie camera.....

If you remember, on the 10th of May 2018, Xiaomi launched the Redmi S2 in China and today it has launched Redmi Y2 in India. The names of both the smartphones are quite similar right? The Only difference is the 'S' in the name of the phone launched in China and 'Y' in the name of the phone launched in India. Well, not just the names, but the phone is also the same. Redmi Y2 is the same phone which was launched in China as Redmi S2. As the Redmi Y1 was a selfie-centered smartphone, so is its successor. Redmi Y2 not just has good cameras, it also has some amazing specifications to offer. So lets just start with it.
  • Specification Highlights - 5.99 icnh HD+ display, Android 8.1 Oreo, Snapdragon 625 SoC, 3080 mAh battery, 12+5 MP rear camera & 16 MP front camera, 3 GB/32 GB and 4 GB/64 GB RAM and Storage variants.

The Redmi Y2 features a 5.99 inch 18:9 display with a resolution of HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels) and comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box with MIUI 9.5 which is Xiaomi's custom UI. It is powered by Snapdragon 625 which is an Octa-core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz based on 14 nm FinFET technology. The processor is a little-bit old but still very capable and stable and is coupled with the Adreno 506 GPU. For the security of the device, you get a fingerprint scanner on the rear side and the phone also offers face unlocking feature.

The cameras are the main highlight of the Redmi Y2. It sports a dual-rear camera setup and a single front camera with LED flashlight. The rear camera setup consists of a 12 MP main shooter with a pixel size of 1.25 μm and the secondary 5 MP camera is for capturing depth information. The front Camera is a 16 MP camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and a 79.8 degree wide-angle lens. Both the rear and front camera come with AI implementation and portrait mode. Xiaomi has worked well on the cameras of this device.

Redmi Y2 comes a 3080 mAh battery under the hood and it comes in two variants - 3 GB/32 GB and 4 GB /64 GB. If you look at the back panel of the phone, it resembles the Redmi Note 5 Pro and the build quality of this Redmi Y2 is much better than that of the Redmi Y1. This phones comes out to be a competition to its own brother, Redmi Note 5. Redmi S2 has better cameras than the Redmi Note 5 and is priced at the same price as the Redmi Note 5. The 3 GB/32 GB variant of Y2 costs Rs 9,999 and the 4 GB RAm variant is priced at Rs 12,999 and it will be sold via Amazon and the first sale of the device will be on the 12th of June at 12 pm. 

The 3 GB RAM variant of the phone is a value for money deal and you can go for it if you have a budget of Rs 10k. But at Rs 12,999 you can get phones with a better hardware like the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 which is priced at Rs 10,999 and comes with the Snapdragon 636 processor. Further you can add Rs 2000 more and you can go for the Redmi Note 5 Pro which will offer you better cameras, better battery and Snapdragon 636 chipset. Its all up to you, just consider what you need the most in your smartphone and go for the best one which satisfies your necessities. If you want a phone with a better screen quality and better battery backup then go with the Redmi Note 5 and if you want a phone with better cameras then just buy the Redmi S2.
